What is a PSPS?
During fire season (May–October) there may be emergencies or weather conditions, such as Red Flag warnings, that prompt some electric utilities to turn off the power to reduce the risk of igniting or spreading wildfires.
Could a PSPS affect you this summer?
A PSPS is not likely, but it’s still important to be prepared. Salem Electric has conducted a risk analysis of our service area. Due to the urban nature of our footprint, a PSPS is not part of our wildfire mitigation plan. However, there is a small chance that Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) could shut off the transmission lines that serve Salem Electric members.
What will happen during a PSPS?
In a high fire risk situation, BPA may shut off the transmission lines that deliver electricity to our substations. As a result, Salem Electric members would be without power. Members will be notified and updated about the PSPS by email, text message, phone, social media, and website alerts.
